Low-Temperature Tempering High-Hardness Ultra Wear-Resistant Cast Steel Shot and Grit
Sep 22, 2026

Core Process:

Standard cast steel shot process: induction furnace smelting water atomization and centrifugal spheroidization quenching low-temperature tempering (220~320) multi-stage screening, roundness selection, inspection

Key point: After quenching, the steel shot contains huge internal quenching stresses. Low-temperature tempering retains the high-hardness martensite matrix while relieving internal stress, significantly reducing breakage; ordinary steel shot often skips low-temperature tempering or uses too high tempering temperatures, resulting in much lower hardness and fatigue life.

Key Technical Parameters:

- Metallographic structure: tempered martensite, fine dispersed carbides, few internal shrinkage cavities

- Hardness: HRC 52~58 (customizable HRC 58~60 ultra-high hardness version, meeting SAE J444 standard)

- Size specifications: S110/S170/S230/S280/S330/S390/S460/S550/S660/S780

- Fatigue life: 2800~3500 cycles, 30%~50% longer than ordinary cast steel shot

- Breakage rate: 1%, less dust, reduces wear on shot blasting machine blades and ducts

- Density: 7.4 g/cm³

Product Advantages:

1. High hardness and balanced toughness: Low-temperature tempering maintains high hardness while eliminating quenching brittleness, making it hard but not brittle, balancing cleaning efficiency and service life

2. Lower consumption: High cycle life, lower abrasive consumption per ton of work-piece, reduced dust load

3. Stable surface treatment: High sphericity gives uniform work-piece roughness, suitable for batch and continuous production

4. Better equipment protection: Less breakage debris reduces wear on shot blasting machine parts and extends blade life

Suitable Applications:

- Heavy steel structures, steel plate rust removal, anti-corrosion pre-treatment

- Casting sand cleaning, forging scale removal

- Automotive chassis, construction machinery parts shot peening

- Pavement shot blasting, containers, shipbuilding heavy-duty rust removal

Not recommended: Thin-walled soft work-pieces, as high hardness can cause excessive impact or surface indentations

Summary:
Low-temperature tempering high-hardness ultra wear-resistant cast steel shot and grit, produced by water atomization and precise low-temperature tempering process.

Microstructure: tempered martensite. Hardness HRC52-58, fatigue life up to 2800-3500 cycles, low breakage rate, less dust.

Complies with SAE J444, widely used in steel structure rust removal, casting descaling, shot peening for auto & machinery parts. Available sizes S110~S780, ISO9001 certified, MSDS & test reports available.

Selection Comparison Tips:

- Ordinary cast steel shot: HRC 40~48, life 1800~2200 cycles, lower cost, suitable for general light shot blasting

- Low-temperature tempering high hardness steel shot: HRC 52~58, long life, suitable for high-strength continuous shot blasting, preferred choice for major industrial projects
