Blast wheel assembly
Nov 03, 2026

Assembly in mechanical drawings / spare parts manuals = assembly, complete assembly, not a single impeller

Brief explanation

The shot blaster assembly is the heart of the centrifugal shot blasting machine, relying on high-speed rotation to accelerate the ejection of steel shot and abrasive, used for rust removal, scale removal, and surface reinforcement.

Main internal components

1. Feed funnel feed hopper

2. impeller Mold Wheel (Impeller)

3. Control cage directional sleeve (sand control sleeve)

4. blades / vanes (consumable parts)

5. Wheel hub

6. Housing: Protective shell

Synonymous Writing (Common in Drawings)

·blast wheel: shot blasting wheel, shot blasting impeller (usually refers to the main body)

·Shot blast wheel assembly: a shot blasting assembly device

·blast turbine: shot blasting turbine (some foreign manufacturers' term)

Example sentence

·Replace the blast wheel assembly. Replace the shot blaster assembly.

Working principle of the blast wheel assembly

In short: The motor drives the spindle to rotate at high speed, relying on centrifugal force to accelerate and position the steel shot (projectile) in stages, launching it in a directional manner, striking the workpiece surface at high speed to achieve rust removal, scale removal, and surface strengthening.

Step-by-step process

1. Shot feeding and initial distribution (impeller): Qualified steel shot falls from the feed pipe into the center and enters the shot distribution wheel rotating at high speed with the spindle; The shot distribution wheel rotates the steel shot to provide an initial velocity, and under centrifugal force, it throws the steel shot toward the inner wall of the outer directional sleeve.

2. Directional flow guide (control cage, fixed and not rotating): There is only one fan-shaped opening on the directional sleeve; The steel shot can only fly outward when it reaches this window position.

✅ Key point: By rotating the directional sleeve, the direction of the projectile fan-shaped shot flow can be changed, which is used during debugging to align the workpiece and reduce air loss and wear when the shot hits the protective plate.

1. Main acceleration (blades): The steel shot flying out from the directional sleeve window falls to the root of the high-speed rotating blade; Under centrifugal force, the steel shot slides outward along the blade surface and continues to accelerate, finally being thrown out tangentially from the outer edge of the blade. Typical outlet speed: 60~80 m/s, with a typical rotational speed of 2000–3000 rpm.

2. Impact Workpiece: The steel shot forms a concentrated fan-shaped bundle of projectiles that strike the workpiece surface at high speed; Relying on impact kinetic energy to remove rust, oxide scale, and welding slag, or to perform shot peening reinforcement on the part (to improve fatigue strength).

After impact, the steel shot bounces back and falls into the bottom recovery system. It passes through the elevator and air separator to sift out broken shot and dust, and the intact shot is sent back to the shot blaster for reuse.

Brief division of labor for each part

·Motor: Motor that provides power

· Impeller: Synchronous rotation, material distribution, and pre-acceleration of the pellet

· Control cage: fixed, controls the direction of the launch

· Blades: Core acceleration components, most prone to wear

·Wheel hub: hub, fixed blade

· Housing + liner: Shell + wear-resistant shield, ensuring the protective shell is not damaged

A point that can easily be confused

· Not compressed air injection (sandblasting uses air propeller; shot blasting is pure centrifugal, blast wheel)

· The spinning roller follows and spins, but the directional sleeve does not turn

· Directional sleeve window position = Launch hotspot position, the core adjustment for debugging the throw head
